Used For:

Daclatasvir is used in the treatment of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, specifically in combination with other antiviral medications, such as sofosbuvir. It’s effective for:

  • Chronic Hepatitis C (HCV) infection

    • Daclatasvir is used to treat genotype 1, 2, 3, and 4 HCV infections.

    • It helps reduce the viral load and prevent liver damage..

 Side Effects:

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea

  • Insomnia

  • Loss of appetite

  • Feeling weak

Less common but serious:

  • Liver issues (e.g., liver failure or hepatitis flares in people with underlying liver disease like cirrhosis)

  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling)

  • Bradycardia (slow heart rate), especially when combined with certain other medications like sofosbuvir and amiodarone.

 Precautions:

  1. Liver Disease:

    • If you have advanced liver disease (cirrhosis), you may need more frequent monitoring of liver function during treatment.

  2. Drug Interactions:

    • Daclatasvir can interact with many other medications, including antacids, steroids, and antifungals. Always inform your doctor of all the medications you’re taking to avoid harmful interactions.

  3. Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:

    • It’s classified as Category C (risk cannot be ruled out) for pregnancy. Not recommended during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.

    • It’s unknown if it passes into breast milk, so consult your doctor if breastfeeding.

  4. Heart Rhythm Issues:

    • Be cautious when using daclatasvir in combination with sofosbuvir and amiodarone, as this combination has been associated with an increased risk of bradycardia (slow heart rate).

  5. Alcohol:

    • Limit alcohol intake while undergoing treatment for hepatitis C, as alcohol can worsen liver damage.
