Used For:

Linezolid is an oxazolidinone antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including:

• Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections
• Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) infections
• Pneumonia (hospital-acquired & community-acquired)
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bloodstream infections (bacteremia & sepsis)

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Headache
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Insomnia

• Serious:

  • Bone marrow suppression (low red/white blood cells, anemia)
  • Peripheral neuropathy (numbness, tingling in hands/feet)
  • Serotonin syndrome (if used with SSRIs or MAOIs; causes confusion, fever, tremors)
  • Lactic acidosis (muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing)
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Optic neuropathy (vision changes, blurred vision)

Precautions:

• Blood Disorders: Monitor blood counts regularly, especially with prolonged use.
• Neuropathy Risk: Long-term use may cause nerve damage; report tingling or weakness.
