Used For:

Dapagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor used for:

• Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus – Lowers blood sugar by helping the kidneys remove excess glucose through urine.
• Heart Failure (HFrEF) – Reduces the risk of hospitalization and worsening symptoms.
• Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) – Slows progression and reduces complications.

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Increased urination
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Genital yeast infections
  • Thirst
  • Low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting)

• Serious:

  • Ketoacidosis (nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing)
  • Severe urinary tract or kidney infections
  • Dehydration (can cause weakness, dizziness, low blood pressure)
  • Hypoglycemia (if used with insulin or sulfonylureas)
  • Fournier’s gangrene (a rare but serious genital infection)
  • Increased cholesterol levels

Precautions:

• Kidney Disease: Not recommended for severe kidney impairment.
