Used For:

Losartan potassium is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes (diabetic nephropathy). It is also prescribed to reduce the risk of stroke in individuals with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (a condition where the heart's left ventricle thickens). Losartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels, thus helping to relax and widen the blood vessels, lowering blood pressure.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of losartan include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, and nasal congestion. Some individuals may experience elevated potassium levels, fatigue, or stomach discomfort. Rare but serious side effects include kidney problems, low blood pressure (hypotension), and allergic reactions (swelling of the face, lips, or throat). In very rare cases, losartan can cause a severe drop in blood pressure or worsen kidney function, requiring immediate medical attention.
