Used For:

  • Treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults
  • Sometimes prescribed off-label for anxiety disorders and other mood conditions

Side Effects:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Sleep disturbances (e.g., insomnia or drowsiness)
  • Dry mouth
  • Rare: sexual dysfunction, suicidal thoughts, or serotonin syndrome

Precautions:

  • Use cautiously in individuals with a history of bipolar disorder or seizures
  • Monitor for signs of suicidal thoughts, especially in the initial treatment phase
  • Avoid abrupt discontinuation; taper the dosage to minimize withdrawal symptoms
