Used For:

Solifenacin is a muscarinic receptor antagonist used to treat:

  • Overactive bladder (OAB)
  • Urge urinary incontinence (sudden, uncontrolled urine leakage)
  • Frequent urination & urgency

It works by relaxing the bladder muscles, reducing the need to urinate frequently.

Side Effects:

  • Common:

    • Dry mouth
    • Constipation
    • Blurred vision
    • Drowsiness
    • Urinary retention (difficulty urinating)

  • Serious:

    • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
    • Severe constipation or intestinal blockage
    • Confusion or hallucinations (more common in elderly patients)
    • Increased eye pressure (glaucoma) (can worsen symptoms)
    • Irregular heartbeat (QT prolongation)

Precautions:

  • Kidney & Liver Disease: Dose adjustments may be needed.
  • Glaucoma: Can increase eye pressure; use with caution.
  • Gastrointestinal Disorders: Avoid if you have severe constipation or intestinal obstruction.
