Used For:

Sacubitril/valsartan is used to treat heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in adults, helping to reduce the risk of hospitalization and cardiovascular death. Sacubitril is a neprilysin inhibitor, which helps lower blood pressure by increasing levels of substances that dilate blood vessels, while valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that also helps relax blood vessels. Together, they improve heart function and reduce strain on the heart.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include low blood pressure (hypotension), elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia), dizziness, and kidney function impairment. Other possible side effects include cough and fatigue. Rare but serious side effects may include angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, or throat) and severe allergic reactions.

Precautions:

Sacubitril/valsartan should be used with caution in individuals with kidney or liver disease, or a history of angioedema. It should not be used during pregnancy, as it may harm the fetus, and it is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers. Patients should avoid using it in combination with ACE inhibitors (like lisinopril) due to increased risk of angioedema.
