Used For:

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Respiratory infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
• Gastrointestinal infections (infectious diarrhea)
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like gonorrhea
• Anthrax exposure prevention

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Stomach pain
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Serious:

  • Tendon rupture or tendinitis (especially in older adults, people on steroids)
  • Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy) (numbness, tingling, pain)
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Seizures or tremors (rare but possible)
  • Mental health effects (confusion, hallucinations, depression)
