Used For:

Empagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor used to:

• Lower blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
• Reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease
• Help manage heart failure by reducing the risk of hospitalization and worsening symptoms

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Increased urination
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Genital yeast infections
  • Thirst
  • Low blood pressure (dizziness, fainting)

• Serious:

  • Ketoacidosis (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing)
  • Severe UTIs that can lead to kidney infections
  • Dehydration (can cause weakness, dizziness, low blood pressure)
  • Hypoglycemia (when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)
  • Fournier’s gangrene (a rare but serious genital infection)
  • Kidney problems

Precautions:
