Used For:

Tritace contains the active ingredient ramipril, which belongs to a class of medications known as ACE inhibitors (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme inhibitors). It is primarily used for:

  1. Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Tritace helps relax and widen blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood, thus lowering blood pressure.
  2. Heart Failure: It is used to improve survival and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes in patients with heart failure or those who have had a recent heart attack.
  3. Prevention of Cardiovascular Events: Tritace is prescribed to lower the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular issues in high-risk patients, including those with diabetes or coronary artery disease.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Tritace may include:

  • Dizziness or Lightheadedness: Particularly when standing up quickly, due to a sudden drop in blood pressure.
  • Cough: A persistent, dry cough is a known side effect of ACE inhibitors.
  • Fatigue or Weakness
  • Headache
  • Nausea or Stomach Discomfort
  • Skin Rash or Itching

Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention):

  • Swelling of the Face, Lips, Tongue, or Throat: This can be a sign of angioedema, a rare but serious allergic reaction.
  • Severe Dizziness or Fainting
  • Signs of High Potassium Levels in the Blood: Such as muscle weakness, slow or irregular heartbeat.
  • Signs of Kidney Problems: Changes in the amount of urine.
  • Liver Issues: Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, severe stomach/abdominal pain, or persistent nausea/vomiting.

Precautions:

  • Medical History: Disclose any history of kidney disease, liver disease, heart conditions, diabetes, or connective tissue diseases like lupus or scleroderma.
  • Allergies: Inform your doctor about any known allergies, especially to ramipril or other ACE inhibitors.
  • Interactions: Tritace can interact with other medications, including other blood pressure drugs, diuretics, NSAIDs, and potassium supplements. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any medication.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Tritace is not recommended during pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby. It is also advised to avoid this medication while breastfeeding.
  • Dizziness: Be cautious when driving or performing tasks requiring alertness, as dizziness can occur, especially when starting the medication or increasing the dose.
  • Alcohol and Smoking: Limit alcohol consumption, as it can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects and increase dizziness. Smoking can reduce the effectiveness of the medication.
  • Regular Monitoring: Regular check-ups and blood tests are crucial to monitor your blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels.
