Serious side effects (though less common) may include:

Precautions:

  • Allergies: If you have a history of allergies to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics, you should not take this combination.
  • Renal Function: Piperacillin and tazobactam are primarily eliminated through the kidneys, so dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with kidney disease.
  • Liver Function: Care is needed in patients with liver disease, as both piperacillin and tazobactam can affect liver function.
  • Gastrointestinal Health: Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis, should use this drug with caution.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Piperacillin and tazobactam should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risks. Consult your doctor before using it in these cases.
  • Drug Interactions: Piperacillin and tazobactam may interact with other medications, particularly those affecting kidney function (e.g., diuretics, NSAIDs). Close monitoring is required for these patients.
