Product Description

Product Name: Tagip Tablets 25mg

Product Form: Tablets

Pack Size: 14's

Manufactured By: Highnoon Laboratories

Used For:

  • Sitagliptin is an oral medication used to treat type 2 diabetes by helping to regulate blood sugar levels.
  • It works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4), which increases the levels of incretins—hormones that help stimulate insulin release and reduce glucose production in the liver.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Upper respiratory tract infections, sore throat, headache, and diarrhea.
  • Serious Side Effects: Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, difficulty breathing), and joint pain. It can also lead to a condition called hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when used with other diabetes medications like sulfonylureas or insulin.
  • Rare but serious: Risk of kidney problems and heart failure in some patients, especially those with preexisting kidney conditions.

Precautions:

  • Kidney Function: Sitagliptin is primarily excreted by the kidneys, so dose adjustments may be needed for patients with kidney disease.
  • Pancreatitis: Sitagliptin has been associated with an increased risk of pancreatitis, so patients should be monitored for symptoms like severe abdominal pain.
  • Hypoglycemia: If combined with other medications that lower blood sugar (like insulin or sulfonylureas), the risk of hypoglycemia is increased.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Sitagliptin is categorized as Category B during pregnancy, meaning it is considered generally safe, but should be used only if necessary. It is not known whether sitagliptin passes into breast milk, so caution should be exercised when used by breastfeeding mothers.
  • Allergic Reactions: Sitagliptin can cause serious allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, and throat, and it should be discontinued if these symptoms occur.
