Product Description
Product Name: Tacgraf Capsules 0.5mg
Product Form: Capsules
Pack Size: 30's
Manufactured By: CCL Pharmaceuticals
Used For:
- Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressive medication primarily used to prevent organ rejection in patients who have undergone organ transplants (e.g., kidney, liver, or heart transplants).
- It is also used to treat certain autoimmune conditions like severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) when topical treatment is not effective.
Side Effects:
- Common Side Effects: Tremors, headaches, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, and high blood pressure (hypertension).
- Serious Side Effects: Kidney toxicity (which can lead to kidney damage or failure), increased risk of infections (due to suppressed immune function), high blood sugar (leading to diabetes), and neurotoxicity (severe headaches, confusion, seizures).
- Other Risks: Increased risk of cancer, particularly skin cancer or lymphoma, due to its immunosuppressive effects.
Precautions:
- Kidney Function: Tacrolimus can be harmful to the kidneys, and kidney function should be closely monitored through regular blood tests, especially during the initial stages of treatment.
- Infections: Since tacrolimus suppresses the immune system, it significantly increases the risk of infections. Patients should take precautions to avoid exposure to infections and follow up regularly with their healthcare provider.
- Blood Pressure: Tacrolimus can elevate blood pressure, so blood pressure monitoring is essential.
- Blood Sugar: Tacrolimus can cause hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), and patients should be monitored for symptoms of diabetes or regularly checked for blood glucose levels.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Tacrolimus is not recommended during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, as it can cause harm to the fetus. It is also excreted in breast milk and should only be used in breastfeeding women if absolutely necessary.
- Drug Interactions: Tacrolimus has several drug interactions, including with medications like azole antifungals, macrolide antibiotics, and certain anticonvulsants, which can alter its levels in the body. Careful monitoring and dose adjustments may be required.
