Product Description
Product Name: Tacavir Tablets 0.5mg
Product Form: Tablets
Pack Size: 30's
Manufactured By: CCL Pharmaceuticals
Used For:
- Entecavir is an antiviral medication primarily used to treat chronic hepatitis B (HBV) infection. It works by inhibiting the replication of the hepatitis B virus, thus reducing viral load and preventing liver damage.
- It may also help prevent the development of liver-related complications like cirrhosis and liver cancer in people with chronic hepatitis B.
Side Effects:
- Common Side Effects: Fatigue, headache, dizziness, and nausea.
- Serious Side Effects: Lactic acidosis (a build-up of lactic acid in the blood, which can be life-threatening), hepatomegaly (enlarged liver), liver failure, and worsening of hepatitis B symptoms when treatment is stopped.
- Bone Issues: Long-term use can lead to a reduction in bone mineral density, increasing the risk of bone fractures.
Precautions:
- Liver Function: Entecavir should be used with caution in individuals with severe liver disease or liver failure, as the medication can cause further liver complications.
- Renal Impairment: Entecavir is primarily excreted through the kidneys, so dose adjustments may be necessary for individuals with kidney disease.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Entecavir is categorized as a Category C drug during pregnancy, meaning it should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is not recommended during breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary.
- Resistance: The development of resistance to entecavir may occur in individuals with lamivudine-resistant hepatitis B, so it is important to monitor viral load regularly during treatment.
- Discontinuation: Stopping entecavir suddenly can lead to an acute worsening of hepatitis B symptoms, so it should only be done under a healthcare provider’s supervision.
