Used For:

• Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension (high pressure inside the eye).
• It works by reducing the production of aqueous humor, the fluid inside the eye, thereby lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) and preventing damage to the optic nerve.

Side Effects:

• Common Side Effects: Eye irritation, stinging or burning sensation in the eyes, blurred vision, dry eyes, or a bitter taste in the mouth.
• Serious Side Effects: Rarely, systemic side effects such as fatigue, headaches, or muscle cramps. There can also be allergic reactions like rash, itching, or swelling around the eyes or face.

Precautions:

• Kidney Function: Dorzolamide can affect kidney function, so it should be used cautiously in people with renal impairment.
• Sulfa Allergy: Since dorzolamide is related to sulfonamides, individuals with a sulfa allergy may be at increased risk of an allergic reaction.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Dorzolamide should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if clearly necessary, as it can pass into breast milk.
