Used For:

  • Treats severe inflammatory acne with bacterial infection

  • Reduces both comedones and active pustules

  • Prevents antibiotic resistance (short-term dual therapy)

Side Effects:

  • Isotretinoin Effects: Extreme dryness, photosensitivity

  • Antibiotic Effects: GI upset, vaginal candidiasis

  • Serious: Pseudotumor cerebri (if combined with tetracyclines)

Precautions:

  • Never take with plain tetracyclines (high intracranial pressure risk)

  • Sun avoidance mandatory (dual photosensitivity risk)

  • 2-hour gap from dairy/antacids (for antibiotic absorption)
