Product Description

Product Name: Sumoxen Tablets 85mg-500mg

Product Form: Tablets

Pack Size: 2's

Manufactured By: Atco Laboratories

Used For:

  • Acute Migraine Attacks: This combination is specifically used to treat migraines once they occur, reducing symptoms like headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light or sound. It is not used for the prevention of migraines.
  • Cluster Headaches: It may also be used to treat cluster headaches, similar to sumatriptan alone, but with the added anti-inflammatory effect of naproxen.
  • Sumatriptan works by binding to serotonin receptors in the brain, leading to the constriction of blood vessels and reduction of inflammation that causes migraine pain.
  • Naproxen sodium works by inhibiting the enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, which produce prostaglandins, the chemicals responsible for inflammation and pain.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Nausea or stomach discomfort
  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Tingling or numbness in fingers or toes
  • Heartburn or indigestion (due to naproxen)
  • Dry mouth or unusual taste

Serious side effects include:

  • Heart issues: Chest pain, high blood pressure, heart attack, or stroke (especially in individuals with cardiovascular risk factors)
  • Gastrointestinal problems: Ulcers, bleeding, or perforation in the stomach or intestines (especially with prolonged use of naproxen)
  • Allergic reactions: Rash, swelling, difficulty breathing (more common with sumatriptan)
  • Liver or kidney problems: Rare, but should be monitored if there is a history of liver or kidney issues.

Precautions:

  • Cardiovascular Conditions: People with a history of heart disease, stroke, or high blood pressure should avoid using this combination unless specifically directed by a healthcare provider.
  • Gastrointestinal Issues: Those with a history of stomach ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding should use naproxen with caution.
  • Kidney and Liver Conditions: The combination should be used carefully in people with liver or kidney disorders.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended for use during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester. It should be used with caution while breastfeeding.
  • Drug Interactions: This medication can interact with other drugs, especially other NSAIDs, blood thinners, or antidepressants (e.g., SSRIs, SNRIs). Always inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking.
