Used For

Strontium Ranelate is primarily used for:

• Treatment of osteoporosis (especially in postmenopausal women and older men).
• Reducing the risk of fractures (particularly in the spine and hips).
• Improving bone strength and density by promoting bone formation and reducing bone breakdown.

How It Works

• Increases bone formation by stimulating osteoblasts (bone-building cells).
• Decreases bone resorption by inhibiting osteoclasts (bone-breaking cells).
• Helps maintain bone mineral density (BMD).

Side Effects

Common side effects:

• Nausea, diarrhea
• Headache
• Skin rash

Rare but serious side effects:

• Increased risk of blood clots (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism).
• Severe allergic reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, severe rash, swelling, breathing difficulty).

Precautions
