Used For:

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs): Caused by bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella.
  • Respiratory infections: Including conditions like bronchitis, pneumonia, and pharyngitis (sore throat) caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Ear infections (otitis media): Often used in children to treat middle ear infections.
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs): Such as gonorrhea.
  • Soft tissue infections: Including skin and wound infections.
  • Typhoid fever: Caused by Salmonella species.

Side Effects:

  • Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
  • Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, or more severe reactions like anaphylaxis (though rare).
  • Headache or dizziness.
  • Fungal infections: Overuse of antibiotics like cefixime may lead to yeast infections (e.g., oral thrush or vaginal yeast infections).
  • Elevated liver enzymes: Rare but may indicate liver stress or damage.
  • Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD): A rare but serious form of diarrhea caused by overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the colon.

Precautions:
