Used For:

  • Fungal infections of the skin, nails, mouth, and throat (e.g., onychomycosis, oral thrush).
  • Systemic fungal infections: Such as histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, aspergillosis, and cryptococcal meningitis.
  • Yeast infections: Caused by Candida species, including esophageal candidiasis or vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Side Effects:

  • Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea.
  • Headache and dizziness.
  • Liver toxicity: Liver function should be monitored, as itraconazole can cause liver damage (e.g., elevated liver enzymes).
  • Skin rash: Including hives or itching.
  • Swelling of the ankles or legs (edema).
  • Fatigue or feeling generally unwell.
  • Low potassium levels (hypokalemia) in some cases.
