Used For:

  • Respiratory Infections:
    • Community-acquired pneumonia
    • Chronic bronchitis
    • Sinusitis (sinus infection)
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Effective against certain urinary infections.
  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Treats infections in the skin or soft tissues caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): Can be used for treating infections in the pelvic region.

Side Effects:

  1. Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
  2. Headache or Dizziness
  3. Tendon Damage: Rare, but fluoroquinolones, including sparfloxacin, may increase the risk of tendonitis or tendon rupture, particularly in older adults.
  4. Photosensitivity: Increased sensitivity to sunlight, leading to sunburns or skin reactions.
  5. Rash or Allergic Reactions: Rare, but can cause skin rashes or severe allergic responses.
  6. QT Interval Prolongation: Can affect the heart's electrical system, leading to irregular heartbeats.
  7. Liver Issues: Can cause elevated liver enzymes in some individuals.
