Used For

  • Bacterial Infections: Treats a variety of infections, including:
    • Respiratory Tract Infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
    • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
    • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
    • Meningitis (bacterial infection of the brain lining)
    • Gonorrhea (sexually transmitted infection)
    • Blood Infections (Sepsis)
    • Bone and Joint Infections

Side Effects

  1. Diarrhea
  2. Rash
  3. Nausea or Vomiting
  4. Pain at the Injection Site (if given intravenously or intramuscularly)

Precautions

  • Allergy to Cephalosporins: Avoid if allergic to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporins, as cross-reactions may occur.
  • Kidney or Liver Issues: Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver problems; monitoring may be needed.
  • Neonates (Infants): Ceftriaxone should not be used in newborns with high bilirubin levels due to the risk of kernicterus (brain damage caused by excess bilirubin).
