Product Description

Product Name: Sofvasc Hct Tablets 10-160-12.5 mg

Product Form: Tablets

Pack Size: 28's

Manufactured By: Wilson's Pharmaceuticals

Used For:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): This triple combination medication is often prescribed for patients who need multiple drugs to achieve blood pressure control.
    • Valsartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels to lower blood pressure.
    • Amlodipine: A calcium channel blocker that helps relax and widen blood vessels, improving blood flow.
    • Hydrochlorothiazide: A thiazide diuretic ("water pill") that reduces fluid in the body by increasing urine production, which helps lower blood pressure.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, swelling of ankles or feet (from amlodipine), and increased urination (from hydrochlorothiazide).
  • Less Common: Low blood pressure, dehydration, muscle cramps, or dry mouth.
  • Serious Side Effects: May include signs of kidney issues (e.g., change in urine output), irregular heartbeat, signs of electrolyte imbalance (e.g., muscle weakness or cramps), severe dizziness, or fainting.

Precautions:

  • Kidney and Liver Health: Dosage may need adjustment for people with kidney or liver issues. Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide, in particular, require caution in these patients.
  • Electrolyte Imbalance: Hydrochlorothiazide can affect levels of electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, and magnesium. Regular blood tests may be necessary to monitor and manage these levels.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to risk to the fetus. Consult a healthcare provider before use in breastfeeding.
  • Dehydration Risk: Hydrochlorothiazide increases urination, which can lead to dehydration. Ensure adequate fluid intake and monitor for signs of dehydration.
  • Avoid Grapefruit Products: Grapefruit may increase the levels of amlodipine, potentially intensifying side effects.
