Used For

  • Sodium Picosulphate is a laxative used to treat constipation and to prepare the bowel for medical procedures such as colonoscopy. It stimulates bowel movements by acting on the lining of the intestines, leading to increased peristalsis (contractions) and fluid accumulation in the bowel.

Side Effects

  • Common: Abdominal cramping, diarrhea, nausea, and bloating.
  • Serious: Dehydration (especially with excessive use), electrolyte imbalances, and allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, or swelling).

Precautions

  • Medical Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of bowel obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, or kidney problems, as sodium picosulphate may not be suitable in these cases.
