Used For:

Sitagliptin is a Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) by:

• Increasing insulin release after meals.
• Reducing glucagon levels, preventing excess sugar production by the liver.
• Helping maintain better blood sugar control without causing significant weight gain.

It is often used alone or in combination with metformin or other diabetes medications.

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Nausea, stomach pain
  • Headache
  • Mild upper respiratory infections (stuffy nose, sore throat)

• Serious (but rare):

  • Pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting)
  • Severe joint pain
  • Low blood sugar (if taken with insulin or sulfonylureas)
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Kidney problems (in people with pre-existing kidney disease)

Precautions:
