Used For:

Silodosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker used to treat:

• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) (Enlarged Prostate)
  • Relaxes muscles in the prostate and bladder neck.
  • Improves urine flow and reduces symptoms like:
    • Difficulty urinating
    • Weak urine stream
    • Frequent urination (especially at night)
    • Urgency to urinate

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Retrograde ejaculation (semen flows into the bladder instead of out)
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness
  • Low blood pressure (especially when standing up)
  • Stuffy nose (nasal congestion)
  • Diarrhea

• Serious (but rare):

  • Severe dizziness or fainting
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Liver problems (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine)

Precautions:

• Avoid in severe liver or kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed).
• May cause low blood pressure & dizziness—get up slowly from sitting/lying down.
• Not for use in women or children.
• Inform your doctor before cataract surgery (risk of Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome).
• Avoid alcohol—can worsen dizziness.
