Manufactured By: GSK
Used For:
- Asthma: Helps to control and prevent asthma symptoms such as wheezing, breathlessness, and tightness in the chest.
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Reduces exacerbations and improves lung function in individuals with COPD.
- Salmeterol: Acts as a bronchodilator, relaxing the muscles around the airways and keeping them open for up to 12 hours, thus preventing bronchospasm and facilitating easier breathing.
- Fluticasone: Reduces inflammation in the airways, minimizing symptoms and the frequency of asthma or COPD flare-ups.
Side Effects:
-
Common Side Effects:
- Hoarseness or sore throat
- Oral thrush (fungal infection in the mouth)
- Headache
- Muscle pain
-
Less Common Side Effects:
- Increased heart rate or palpitations
- Tremors
- Potential decrease in bone density with prolonged use
- Suppressed immune response, particularly if inhaled corticosteroids are used in high doses over time
Precautions:
-
Rinse Mouth After Use: Rinsing the mouth after using the inhaler helps prevent oral thrush and throat irritation.
-
Not for Acute Asthma Attacks: This combination is for long-term control, not for immediate relief of asthma attacks. A fast-acting rescue inhaler should be used for sudden symptoms.
-
Regular Monitoring: Patients, especially those on long-term high-dose corticosteroids, should be monitored for potential side effects like reduced bone density or adrenal suppression.
-
Use in Children and Elderly: Dose adjustments may be necessary, and careful monitoring is advised due to potential growth suppression in children and higher sensitivity in elderly patients.
