Used For:

  • Respiratory Infections: Including pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis
  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
  • Intra-abdominal Infections
  • Eye Infections: (as eye drops) such as conjunctivitis
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) and certain other types of bacterial infections, though it is typically reserved for cases where other antibiotics are ineffective or unsuitable due to its strong profile and risk of side effects.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects:

    • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
    • Headache or dizziness
    • Stomach pain or discomfort
    • Rash or itching

  • Serious Side Effects:

    • Tendonitis and Tendon Rupture: Especially in the elderly or those on corticosteroids
    • Peripheral Neuropathy: Tingling, numbness, or weakness in the limbs
    • Mental Health Effects: Such as confusion, agitation, or hallucinations (rare but possible)
    • Heart Rhythm Changes: Moxifloxacin can cause QT prolongation, which affects the heart rhythm, potentially leading to serious arrhythmias
