Used For:

This combination is used to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) by:

• Glimepiride (Sulfonylurea):

  • Increases insulin release from the pancreas.
  • Lowers blood sugar levels after meals.

• Metformin HCl (Biguanide):

  • Reduces glucose production in the liver.
  • Improves insulin sensitivity in muscles.

Together, they provide better blood sugar control than either drug alone.

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Stomach pain, bloating
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Weight gain (due to Glimepiride)

• Serious (but rare):

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) (sweating, shakiness, fast heartbeat)
  • Lactic acidosis (weakness, dizziness, fast breathing)
  • Liver problems (yellowing of skin/eyes)
