Used For:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Helps alleviate symptoms of depression, including sadness, fatigue, and loss of interest.
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Reduces anxiety, restlessness, and nervousness in individuals with GAD.
  • Other Anxiety Disorders: Sometimes used for conditions like panic disorder and social anxiety disorder, though primarily prescribed for MDD and GAD.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects:
    • Nausea, dry mouth, and dizziness
    • Sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or drowsiness
    • Sexual dysfunction (reduced libido or difficulty with arousal)
    • Increased sweating or fatigue
  • Serious Side Effects:
    • Increased risk of suicidal thoughts in young adults (monitoring required)
    • Serotonin syndrome (when taken with other serotonergic drugs)
    • Weight changes or electrolyte imbalances

Precautions:
