Used For

  • Prevention of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation (AFib) not caused by a heart valve problem
  • Treating and preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)
  • Reducing the risk of recurring DVT and PE
  • Prevention of blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery

Side Effects

  • Common: Bleeding (gums, nose, or minor cuts), bruising, and stomach upset
  • Serious: Severe bleeding, such as gastrointestinal bleeding, brain bleeding, or blood in urine or stool
  • Rare: Liver enzyme abnormalities, allergic reactions

Precautions
