Used For:

  • Respiratory Tract Infections: Commonly prescribed for acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and mild-to-moderate cases of community-acquired pneumonia.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects:
    • Nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain

  • Serious Side Effects:
    • Tendon inflammation or rupture (especially in older adults and those taking corticosteroids)

Precautions:

  • Tendon Health: Avoid strenuous exercise during and shortly after treatment, as fluoroquinolones can increase the risk of tendon injuries.
  • Sun Sensitivity: Can cause photosensitivity, so minimize sun exposure and use sunscreen or protective clothing.
  • Kidney and Liver Function: Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment.
