Used For:

  • Hypertension: Effective in lowering high blood pressure, which can help prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
  • Heart Failure: Used to improve symptoms and increase survival in patients with heart failure.
  • Left Ventricular Dysfunction: Helps prevent the progression of heart disease in patients with left ventricular dysfunction following a heart attack.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: These may include cough, dizziness, headache, fatigue, and gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea).
  • Serious Side Effects: Rarely, it can cause severe allergic reactions (angioedema), kidney dysfunction, or hyperkalemia (high potassium levels).

Precautions:

  • Kidney Health: Regular monitoring of kidney function is recommended, especially during the initiation of therapy or dose adjustments.
  • Pregnancy: Enalapril is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it may harm the fetus.
