Used For:
- Phosphate Binder in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) – Lowers high phosphorus levels in patients with kidney failure on dialysis.
- Prevention of Bone & Heart Problems – Helps prevent renal bone disease (osteodystrophy) and reduces the risk of heart complications due to high phosphate levels.

Serious Side Effects (Rare):
- Severe gastrointestinal issues – Risk of bowel obstruction
- Low vitamin levels – May reduce absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K)
- Metabolic acidosis – In some cases, it may lower blood bicarbonate levels
Precautions:
- Take with Meals – Helps bind phosphorus from food.
- Monitor Calcium & Phosphorus Levels – Regular blood tests needed.
- May Interfere with Other Medications – Take other drugs at least 1 hour before or 3 hours after Sevelamer.
- Ensure Adequate Vitamin Intake – Long-term use may require vitamin supplementation.
