Used For:

  • Depression: Treats major depressive disorder (MDD) by improving mood and energy levels.
  • Anxiety Disorders: Effective in managing generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and panic disorder.
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Helps reduce compulsive behaviors and intrusive thoughts.
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Often used to alleviate symptoms of PTSD.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: These include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, sweating, and difficulty sleeping.
  • Serious Side Effects: Rarely, it may cause serotonin syndrome (especially when combined with other serotonergic drugs), increased risk of suicidal thoughts (especially in younger people), and withdrawal symptoms if stopped abruptly.

Precautions:

  • Mental Health Monitoring: Regular check-ins are advised as paroxetine can increase suicidal thoughts, particularly in adolescents and young adults.
