Used For:

  • Candidiasis: Commonly prescribed for infections caused by Candida species, including oral thrush, vaginal yeast infections, and systemic candidiasis.
  • Cryptococcal Meningitis: Used to treat this serious infection of the brain and spinal cord caused by Cryptococcus fungi, often seen in immunocompromised patients.
  • Fungal Infections in Immunocompromised Patients: Helps prevent fungal infections in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS, cancer, or organ transplants.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Include nausea, headache, stomach pain, diarrhea, and dizziness.
  • Serious Side Effects: Rarely, fluconazole can cause liver toxicity, skin reactions (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome), or QT prolongation (heart rhythm abnormalities).

Precautions:
