Cholestyramine is a bile acid sequestrant used primarily to lower cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. It can also be used to relieve itching caused by certain liver diseases by binding bile acids in the intestine.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include constipation, bloating, stomach pain, and gas. Some patients may experience nausea or a decreased absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Serious side effects can include intestinal obstruction, especially in patients with a history of bowel problems.
Precautions:
