Used For:

  1. Respiratory Tract Infections:

    • Community-acquired pneumonia.
    • Acute bacterial sinusitis.
    • Chronic bronchitis exacerbations.
  2. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections:

    • Uncomplicated and complicated skin infections.
  3. Intra-Abdominal Infections:

    • Complicated intra-abdominal infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
  4. Ophthalmic Use (Eye Drops):

    • Bacterial conjunctivitis (infections of the eye).

Side Effects:

  1. Common Side Effects:

    • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
    • Headache or dizziness.
    • Stomach pain or upset.
  2. Serious Side Effects:

    • Tendinitis or Tendon Rupture: Particularly in older adults or those on corticosteroids.
    • Peripheral Neuropathy: Tingling, numbness, or weakness.
    • QT Prolongation: May lead to irregular heart rhythms.
    • Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
    • Central nervous system effects (e.g., seizures, tremors, confusion).
    • Liver dysfunction (elevated liver enzymes, jaundice).

Precautions:

  1. Allergies: Avoid if allergic to moxifloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.

  6. Children and Adolescents: Not typically recommended due to potential joint and tendon effects.
  7. Photosensitivity: Avoid excessive sun or UV exposure.
  8. Drug Interactions:
    • Avoid with drugs that prolong QT interval (e.g., certain antiarrhythmics, antidepressants).
    • Separate administration with antacids, multivitamins, or supplements containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium.
