Used For:
Levosulpiride is an atypical antipsychotic and prokinetic agent used primarily to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as functional dyspepsia and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It can also be prescribed for certain psychiatric conditions, including depression and schizophrenia, by improving mood and reducing symptoms of anxiety.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. Some individuals may experience dizziness, dry mouth, or increased appetite. Rare but serious side effects can include extrapyramidal symptoms (movement disorders), hyperprolactinemia (elevated prolactin levels), and allergic reactions.
Precautions:
Levosulpiride should be used with caution in individuals with a history of seizures, liver or kidney disorders, or cardiovascular conditions. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless clearly needed. Regular monitoring for side effects, especially extrapyramidal symptoms, is advised during treatment.
