Used for

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Helps improve mood, energy, and motivation.
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Reduces excessive worry and nervousness.
  • Panic Disorder: Helps prevent panic attacks.
  • Social Anxiety Disorder: Decreases fear and discomfort in social situations.

Side Effects

  • Common: Nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, sweating, increased heart rate.
  • Less Common: Weight changes, blurred vision, sexual dysfunction, drowsiness.
  • Serious (Rare):
    • Suicidal Thoughts (Especially in young adults at the start of treatment).
    • Serotonin Syndrome (Confusion, rapid heartbeat, fever, muscle stiffness).
    • High Blood Pressure (May require monitoring).
    • Withdrawal Symptoms (If stopped suddenly: dizziness, irritability, brain zaps, flu-like symptoms).

Precautions

  • Avoid Alcohol & CNS Depressants: Can increase drowsiness and dizziness.
  • Do Not Stop Suddenly: Should be tapered off gradually under medical supervision.
  • Liver & Kidney Patients: Dose adjustment may be necessary.
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Not recommended; consult a doctor.
