Used For:

These medications are used together to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) by improving blood sugar control:

• Metformin HCl: A biguanide that reduces glucose production in the liver and increases insulin sensitivity.
• Pioglitazone: A thiazolidinedione that improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat tissues.

Side Effects:

• Metformin HCl:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Stomach discomfort, bloating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lactic acidosis (rare but serious)
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency (long-term use)

• Pioglitazone:

  • Weight gain
  • Fluid retention (swelling, heart failure risk)
  • Increased risk of bone fractures

Precautions:
