Used For:

• Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) – Used alone or in combination with Metformin, Sulfonylureas, or DPP-4 inhibitors.
• Reduces insulin resistance in muscle and fat tissues.
• May improve lipid profile (lowers triglycerides and increases HDL "good cholesterol").

Side Effects:

• Common:

  • Weight gain
  • Swelling (fluid retention, edema)
  • Mild headache
  • Muscle pain

• Serious (Less Common):

  • Heart failure risk – May cause fluid retention, worsening heart conditions.
  • Increased fracture risk – Weakens bones, especially in postmenopausal women.
  • Bladder cancer risk (long-term use) – Some studies suggest a link.
  • Liver problems – Yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine.
  • Macular edema (eye swelling) – May affect vision.

Precautions:

• Not for Type 1 Diabetes or Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA).
