Used For:

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): This combination helps to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of complications like stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage.
    • Valsartan relaxes blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
    • Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (water pill) that helps reduce blood volume by increasing the excretion of sodium and water, which further aids in lowering blood pressure.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, and lightheadedness (especially when starting treatment or adjusting doses).
  • Electrolyte Imbalance: HCTZ can lead to imbalances in potassium, sodium, and magnesium, potentially causing symptoms like muscle cramps, weakness, or irregular heartbeats.
  • Serious Side Effects: Rarely, it may cause angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, or throat), kidney impairment, or severe hypotension.

Precautions:
