Used For:

Side Effects:
- Common Side Effects: These may include nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and abdominal pain.
- Serious Side Effects: Rarely, ciprofloxacin can cause tendon rupture (especially in older adults), peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects (such as seizures), and an increased risk of Clostridium difficile infection leading to colitis.
Precaution:
- Tendon Issues: Ciprofloxacin is associated with an increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture, particularly in patients over 60, those taking corticosteroids, and individuals with kidney disease.
- CNS Effects: Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures or other CNS disorders, as it may exacerbate these conditions.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited safety data and potential risks to the fetus or infant.
- Drug Interactions: Ciprofloxacin can interact with antacids, calcium, magnesium, iron supplements, and some medications that affect liver enzymes, potentially reducing its effectiveness. Always consult a healthcare provider about all medications being taken.
