Used For:

Rifaximin is commonly prescribed for:

  1. Travelers' Diarrhea:

    • Effective against diarrhea caused by non-invasive strains of Escherichia coli.
  2. Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D):

    • Used to relieve symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal discomfort.
  3. Hepatic Encephalopathy:

    • Used to reduce the risk of episodes of confusion and other neurological symptoms in patients with liver disease by decreasing the levels of ammonia-producing bacteria in the intestines.
  4. Clostridium difficile Infection (C. diff):

    • Sometimes used as part of a treatment regimen for recurrent infections, although it is not a first-line treatment.

Side Effects:
