Product Description

Product Name: Nevanac Drops 0.1% 5ml

Product Form: Drops

Pack Size: 5ml

Manufactured By: Alcon Pharmaceuticals

Used For:

  1. Postoperative Eye Pain and Inflammation:
    • Commonly prescribed after eye surgeries, such as cataract surgery, to reduce inflammation, discomfort, and pain.
  2. Prevention of Macular Edema:
    • For some patients with diabetes undergoing cataract surgery, nepafenac may be used to prevent macular edema (swelling in the central retina).

Nepafenac reduces inflammation by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for producing inflammatory chemicals (prostaglandins). By lowering these chemicals, it reduces pain, swelling, and redness in the eye.

Side Effects:

Common Side Effects:

  1. Temporary Eye Irritation:

    • Burning, stinging, or itching sensation immediately after application.
  2. Blurred Vision:

    • Can occur temporarily right after application.
  3. Feeling of Foreign Body in Eye:

    • A sensation that something is in the eye, although no object is present.
  4. Dry Eyes or Eye Discharge.

Serious Side Effects (rare):

  1. Eye Pain or Redness:

    • Increased redness, eye pain, or other signs of worsening inflammation.
  2. Increased Sensitivity to Light.

  3. Allergic Reactions:

    • Symptoms may include rash, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or breathing difficulties, which require immediate medical attention.
  4. Delayed Healing:

    • NSAIDs like nepafenac can sometimes delay healing of the cornea if used for extended periods or in people with certain conditions.

Precautions:

  1. Avoid Prolonged Use:

    • Using nepafenac for extended periods can sometimes delay healing or worsen inflammation. Use only as prescribed.
  2. Allergies:

    • Avoid if allergic to NSAIDs (such as aspirin, ibuprofen) or any ingredient in nepafenac eye drops.
  3. Eye Conditions:

    • If you have a history of ocular herpes simplex or other eye infections, NSAIDs may increase risks related to eye healing. Consult your doctor for alternative treatments.
  4. Contact Lenses:

    • Avoid wearing contact lenses immediately after using the drops, as preservatives in nepafenac can irritate the eyes and be absorbed by lenses.
  5. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

    • Limited safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding, so use only if prescribed by a doctor.
  6. Concurrent Use with Other Eye Medications:

    • If using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications to prevent the risk of interaction or dilution of nepafenac.
