Used For:

  • Neuropathic Pain: Effective in treating various types of nerve pain, including diabetic neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia (pain following shingles).
  • Seizure Disorders: Used as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures in adults and children.
  • Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS): Sometimes prescribed to help manage symptoms of RLS.
  • Anxiety Disorders: In some cases, it may be used off-label to treat anxiety.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, and coordination problems are frequently reported.
  • Less Common Side Effects: Weight gain, peripheral edema (swelling), blurred vision, or mood changes may occur.
  • Severe Side Effects: Rarely, gabapentin can cause serious side effects such as allergic reactions, depression, or suicidal thoughts.

Precautions:
