Used For:

  • Respiratory Tract Infections: Effective against pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Used for uncomplicated and complicated UTIs.
  • Skin Infections: Treats bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissue.
  • Other Infections: Also used for infections in the gastrointestinal tract, bones, and joints.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and trouble sleeping.
  • Serious Side Effects: Risk of tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage), central nervous system effects (seizures, anxiety, confusion), and prolonged QT interval (can lead to heart rhythm problems).

Precautions:

  • Tendinitis and Tendon Rupture: Increased risk, especially in older adults and those on corticosteroids; avoid strenuous physical activity while on the medication.
