Used For:

  • Anxiety Disorders: Helps relieve symptoms of anxiety and tension.
  • Panic Disorders: Effective for treating sudden and intense episodes of fear, such as panic attacks.
  • Short-Term Relief of Anxiety Symptoms: May be used for short-term management of anxiety symptoms until other treatments are effective.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, and coordination problems.
  • Serious Side Effects: Can include respiratory depression, especially if combined with other sedatives or alcohol. There’s also a risk of dependence, withdrawal symptoms, and, in rare cases, mood changes or hallucinations.

Precautions:

  • Dependence and Tolerance: Alprazolam can be habit-forming, especially with long-term use or high doses, so it’s typically prescribed for short periods.
