Used For:

Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

• Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite
• Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Especially when used with other antidiabetic agents like insulin or sulfonylureas
• Headache
• Lactic acidosis (rare but serious): Can occur due to metformin accumulation, especially in patients with kidney issues
• Upper respiratory tract infections: As a potential side effect of sitagliptin
• Vitamin B12 deficiency: Long-term metformin use can lead to lower levels of vitamin B12

Precautions:

• Kidney function: Metformin can accumulate in patients with impaired kidney function, increasing the risk of lactic acidosis. Kidney function should be regularly monitored.
